FEATHER TYPE

EUROPEAN 302 DE-QUILLED FEATHER

Type 302 refers to a high-quality duck feather grade known for its bulk fill and springy feel. Typically 95% feather with 5% down or finer feather, it’s sorted for medium size and complies with EN 12935 hygiene standards, making it ideal for cushions that need shape and resilience without sag.

85/15 FEATHER & DOWN

This 85/15 blend combines 85% European 302 duck feather with 15% soft duck down. It offers extra loft and a gentler sink compared to pure feather, while still holding shape well. Sorted to industry standards and EN 12935 compliant, it’s a premium fill ideal for back cushions or scatter cushions.

70/30 FEATHER / DOWN

A 70/30 blend offers 70% European 302 duck feather with 30% soft duck down, giving a noticeably softer, more luxurious feel. It retains some structure from the feather while adding more loft and lightness from the down. Fully EN 12935 compliant, it’s perfect for high-end scatter cushions or indulgent back supports.

🪶 How to Measure and Care for Your Feather-Filled Cushion

Measuring Your Cushion Cover for a Replacement Feather Interior

Getting an accurate measurement ensures your new cushion interior fits perfectly and gives a full, tailored look. Follow these simple steps:

1. Measure the Cover Only
Use the empty cover — not the old or existing interior. We size our feather inserts based on the actual cover, not how the current cushion looks when filled.

2. Measure Seam to Seam
Lay the cover flat and measure from seam to seam — both width and length. Don’t stretch the fabric, and ignore any piping or decorative edging.

3. Don’t Worry if the Old Interior Looks Bigger
Feather cushions tend to spread and overfill their covers with use — this is completely normal. The new insert may initially look smaller when compared to the old one, but rest assured it will fill the space properly.

4. We’ll Handle the Loft
Once we receive your measurements, we’ll adjust the feather fill and internal baffle construction to suit. No need to add anything extra — we do all the behind-the-scenes work to achieve the right loft and support.

Feather Seat Cushions (Square / Rectangle)

Our feather seat cushions — available in both square and rectangular formats — are designed with internal baffles (or channels) to keep the feathers evenly distributed. This prevents the filling from shifting or sagging over time and gives the cushion a more structured shape.

Why the Front-to-Back Measurement Matters
We ask for the front-to-back size so we can correctly position the baffles to run across the cushion. This is essential to keep the fill balanced and the seat comfortable.

Custom-Filled for Your Needs
Each cushion is filled differently depending on its use:

  • Seat cushions are packed firmer for support

  • Back cushions are filled lighter for a softer, relaxed feel

We also offer a range of feather fill types to match different comfort preferences and budgets.

A Note on Allergies

Feather interiors are not hypoallergenic and may not be suitable for those with feather or dust allergies.

If you need an allergy-friendly alternative with a similar feel and bounce, we recommend our fibre-filled cushion range — available for both seats and backs, offering great comfort and excellent loft.

Feather Cushion Care Instructions

To keep your cushions looking and feeling their best:

  • Daily Fluffing – Plump your cushions every day to maintain fullness.

  • Vigorous Shaking – Shake regularly to redistribute feathers and prevent clumping.

  • Frequent Rotation – Turn cushions around often for even wear and shape retention.

  • Keep Dry – Avoid moisture; if wet, dry thoroughly in a well-ventilated area to prevent mildew.

  • Spot Cleaning – Use a mild detergent on any marks and ensure the cushion dries fully before use.

Tip: Use protective outer covers to guard against spills, stains, and dirt. They’ll extend the life of your cushions and keep them looking fresh.
