Dacron is a soft polyester fibre wadding used to wrap foam cushions. It adds a smooth, rounded profile, disguises sharp foam edges, and helps the cushion fit neatly into its cover. But it’s not just about appearance — it plays a vital role in how your cushions age and perform.

Here’s what Dacron does:

  • Adds loft and fullness – creates a plump, full-bodied cushion that fills the cover properly.
  • Protects fabric and foam – acts as a barrier, reducing friction between the foam and cover.
  • Improves comfort – adds a subtle layer of softness over firm foam grades.
  • Prevents cover sagging – helps cushions recover their shape after use.

đź“Ź How to Choose the Right Thickness

When replacing feather or fibre cushions with foam, always match the foam thickness to the border width of your cover, then add 12oz Dacron. This compensates for the difference in softness between feather and foam, ensuring a snug, full fit.

⚙️ How We Apply Dacron at Foam4U

Each cushion is wrapped by our upholstery technicians using specialist spray adhesive to bond the Dacron evenly to the foam. This ensures a smooth, consistent finish with no creases or lumps.

By default, Dacron is fitted to the top and bottom surfaces of each foam piece. However, if you need it fitted to additional sides (for example, around the full perimeter), just let us know when placing your order — we’ll do it at no extra charge.

In keeping with our sustainability goals, we occasionally join Dacron sheets to reduce material waste. This has no effect on comfort or lifespan once the cushion is fitted inside its cover.

🧵 Always Fit Stockinette Over Dacron

If you’re ordering cushions with Dacron, we always recommend adding Stockinette. Here’s why:

  • It prevents the Dacron from snagging or detaching during use.
  • It allows the cushion to slide easily into the cover.
  • It protects the Dacron during delivery and fitting.

Dacron can rub against the underside of the cover fabric, particularly in transit, which can cause it to lift or crease. Stockinette eliminates that problem entirely — and gives your cushions a professional, easy-to-fit finish.

⚠️ A Note on Handling & Delivery

Dacron is a delicate material — it does not travel well. During shipping or collection, it may become slightly crumpled or detached in places. Once fitted into your cushion covers, however, it settles perfectly back into shape.

If you’d like to avoid any risk of compression during transport, we always suggest sending us your cushion covers. Our team will fill them free of charge, ensuring the perfect fit and finish before dispatch.
