Our History

Livedale Foam & Sundries Ltd was founded in 1960 by five former Dunlop employees who had been at the forefront of foam development. These were craftsmen who valued quality, loyalty, and hard work — and that foundation remains at the heart of everything we do today.
Over the decades, Livedale built a strong reputation, supplying the upholstery trade with dependable products and building a loyal customer base that has stood the test of time.

By 1993, only two of the original partners remained — Bill and Fred. That year, Fred sold his shares to Bill’s son-in-law, Ian. This new partnership carried the business forward until 1997, when Bill retired and passed his shares to his daughter Sue, who was already an integral part of the company. From there, Livedale became a true husband-and-wife team.

The next generation kept the tradition alive. Ian and Sue’s son Matt joined the family business in 2000, and his wife Helen came on board in 2013. After Sue and Ian’s retirement in 2021, Matt and Helen proudly took over the running of Livedale, ensuring the company’s family-driven values continue into the future.

Growth has always been steady and deliberate. In 2011, after outgrowing the original Farnworth premises, the search began for new facilities. We were fortunate to move into a brand-new factory in Wigan in May 2012 and have since expanded further with the purchase of two additional units.

Over the last 11 years, our team has grown from just 7 members to over 40 employees, all while preserving that same close-knit, family atmosphere. We’ve invested heavily in the business — installing a CNC cutting machine, producing fibre and feather cushions in-house, and expanding our fleet of delivery vehicles to better serve our customers.

A New Chapter

Continuing our tradition of steady growth and strengthening our place in the industry, we are proud to announce that Livedale has recently taken over Foam4U.
This marks an exciting new chapter for the company, allowing us to broaden our reach and offer even greater service to our customers — while staying true to the traditional values that built Livedale from the ground up.
